George Hudson entered the port industry 40 years ago, most of which has been involved with the forest products sector. He joined the Mersey Docks & Harbour Company, the second largest ports’ group in the UK, in early 1999 as UK Business Development Manager for the group. As well as its port operations of Liverpool & Heysham, in the north of England, it also owned the Medway Ports of Chatham and Sheerness in Southern England. In September 2005 the Mersey Docks Group was bought by Peel Holdings and is now part of Peel Ports Ltd. Also included within Peel Ports is the Manchester Ship Canal and Clydeport.
Before joining the Mersey Docks Group he spent 30 years in the Port of London, at Tilbury, active in the forest products sector since the late 1960’s, when he joined Canadian Transport, a subsidiary of MacMillan Bloedel. Opening in 1967, Canadian Transport Terminals operated one of the first and most innovative purpose built deep-sea forest products terminals in the UK, handling all types of forest products produced by MacMillan Bloedel. In the early 1990s he joined the commercial department of the Port of Tilbury where his main responsibility was for forest products, until leaving to join Mersey Docks.
Based in Southern England his responsibilities now include not only forest products but also all other types of business development opportunities for the Peel Ports Group.
George has been a member of IFPTA since 1991. This is his first term as an IFPTA Director.
